kogiopsis asked: saw your post about boring tropes in SFF and wanted to mention - if you haven't read The Way of Kings yet, I'd strongly recommend it; while it still has a very gendered society (at least the one we see most of) the roles are unusual and the female characters have strong, complex arcs and relationships. ((also, every character but one are POC and the ebook's currently $2 American on Amazon.))
Noted, thanks! I’ve heard good things about Sanderson - I managed to grab one of his books at WFC, which I’m looking forward to reading - so will hopefully get to it soon :)
