Anonymous asked: Re: your latest rant about fetishization of queer relationships in fandom, especially where it relates to IRL people - can we also add that showing these people your explicit shippy fanart/fanfic is super-rude too? I'd like to specifically shout that out to interviewers/reporters who think it's "cute" or "funny" to show celebrities fanart and/or fanfic of themselves or their characters doing super-explicit things.

YES THIS ALSO.

Again, for the sake of clarity: some celebrities openly embrace the idea of fanart, and like seeing what fans have made; even, in some cases, if it’s NSFW or shippy. Others prefer, quite reasonably, to keep a distance, and say as much. Fans who violate those boundaries for whatever reason, or who don’t bother to consider a celebrity’s comfort when presenting them with explicit anything, are being shitty humans.

That being said, there’s still a salient difference between what celebrities are happy to engage with from fans, and what they’re happy to discuss during recorded interviews. A fan bringing something they’ve created to a celebrity meet and greet is one thing; a random interviewer bringing up a fan’s creations in interview - invariably without either the fan’s permission or a forewarning to the celebrity - just to see how the celeb reacts, especially if it’s explicit, is really goddamn gross.
