Quinn Morgendorffer is aromatic & asexual, but not sex-repulsed. FIGHT ME.

but first, defend?

Gladly!

-          In ‘This Year’s Model’, when the Fashion Club members are asked to simulate sexual/romantic poses with boys in their grade as part of a modelling course, Quinn becomes demonstrably uncomfortable and leaves, even when it’s made clear to her that this will likely cost her the big modelling prize, which she desperately wants.

-          In ‘Daria Dance Party’, when Quinn’s two dates try to dance with her, she shoves them violently away and yells ‘EW! Get your big, sweaty hands off me! I don’t slow dance until AFTER the fifth date!”. However, she dates so many guys so briefly that we’ve never seen her go on a fifth date with anyone, which means this is arguably a tactic to avoid any intimate contact at all.

-          In ‘Speedtrapped’, when Quinn and Daria go on a roadtrip and Daria is surprised by the fact that her sister knows how to drive, Quinn says, ‘God, Daria – what do you think people DO on dates?’ – the implication being that this is how Quinn spends her own dates. She also says the same thing about bars, despite being underage, but given the ample evidence that Quinn doesn’t drink – she refuses alcohol in ‘Is It College Yet?’, and though voted Keg Queen in ‘College Bored’, she remains sober – there’s no commensurate inference that she’s going there as a pretext for drinking and getting physical: just that she’s outgoing.

-          Despite her frequent dates, we never see Quinn kiss or be physically involved with anyone. While this is also true of all the Fashion Club members, it’s doubly notable in Quinn’s case because, unlike her friends, she makes several plot-centric attempts at having a steady boyfriend, particularly in ‘One J At A Time’. By contrast, Daria, Jane, Jodie, Brittany and Helen are all shown being physically intimate with their partners.

-          Also despite her frequent dates, we never see Quinn being romantically interested in any of the boys she takes out. While she does express a strong interest in her tutor, David, in ‘Is It Fall Yet?’, this is never explicitly stated to be romantic interest; she tells him that “I like like you”, and later confides to Daria that she never tells guys she likes them, but as she’s otherwise shown to have no real concern or interest in the boys she dates at all beyond what they can do for her and their basic aesthetics, there’s a strong argument to be made that what she feels for David is platonic, not romantic, which he himself implies in his (kind) rejection of her.

-          More than the other Fashion Club members, Quinn is constantly shown to be choosing – or rather, refusing to choose – between multiple different boys; usually Jamie, Joey and Jeffie, but also other pairs or trios. Given that any declaration of aromaniticism or asexuality on her part would likely see her ostracised, keeping multiple boys in tow without actually dating any of them gives her the peer leverage of perceived availability and desirability without actually requiring that she get physical with anyone.

-          In conclusion: while there is no canonical evidence that Quinn has either been in love or even been kissed, let alone done anything more physical with her dates, there’s a wealth of evidence that her appreciation for boys is aesthetic only, that she doesn’t enjoy sexual/intimate contact (although she’ll happily discuss romance and sex with others), and that her relationships are platonic rather than romantic.

And thus my headcann: Quinn Morgendorffer is aromantic & asexual, but not sex-repulsed.
