solitarelee asked: Foz, what hand/wrist stretches do you recommend for someone who writes all day professionally? I just started writing full time this last year and it's catching up with me in terms of hand injuries/pain.

Dear @solitarelee,

I feel your pain! There are a few I tend to use:

1 - Lace your fingers together, palms facing your body with your arms outstretched in front. You hold that at extension, then slowly lift your arms, but don’t put your hands any higher than eye level. It helps to stretch out your hands, arms, shoulders and neck, and is especially good if you’ve been sitting at a screen for a long period.

2 - Massage the webbing between your thumb and pointer finger. Do this by pincering it between your opposite thumb and pointer. Hold the pressure and rub small circles. It’s a pressure point for your hand and neck; it’ll hurt, especially if the muscles are tense, but in a very good way. Always make sure to do both sides.

3. Neck stretches! Standing up, face straight ahead. Slowly look left, then right. Repeat three times. Slowly look up, then down. Repeat three times. Gently roll your head from left to right, facing slightly downwards, but DO NOT try to roll it in a full arc or tip your head back - that will only hurt you. Repeat three times.

Hope that helps, and happy writing!
