The Aeneid is essentially Odyssey/Iliad fanfic, which is historical RPF in the first place. The works we lionise are all, essentially, fanfic of some kind but they aren't called that because... well, because of sexism probably.

Pretty much, yeah. As ever, the popular way to define it seems to be: if it’s good, it’s literature, if it’s not, it’s genre/fanfic/pulp/trash and probably written by someone with LADYFEELINGS. *eyerolls unto eternity*
