Look at this nerd ❤

One of us, one of us

!!

I knew I liked her.

You mean this isn’t how everyone travels? *blink, blink*

Every time I think I couldn’t love this woman more.
P.S.
Get a Kindle Hayley, they’re God’s gift to those of us who do this sort of thing.

Getting a Kindle doesn’t solve this problem; it just means you end up carrying eleven books and an ereader, because some books aren’t available digitally or you already own the paperback or it’s a new release but you love the author and just HAVE to have a physical copy and what if the Kindle runs out of batteries or you drop it or something? YOU COULD BE RENDERED BOOKLESS! And it’s this fear, the fear of booklessness, which leads otherwise rational humans to carry approximately ten kilos’ worth of extraneous reading material on a two day trip: because you might go on a reading binge and finish one book and want the sequel instantly, or else you might want to take a break, or maybe the one you brought to read next won’t do it for you or you’ll end up ragequitting after three chapters and huh, that non-fiction book about the women of Bletchley Park you bought three years ago always looks so interesting whenever you pick it up, maybe you should take it just in case this turns out to be the week you finally give it a go, and if you’re taking one book on the dutiful offchance then maybe you should take that loaner your friend gave you last month that you’re iffy about but haven’t quite gotten around to yet, too…

Basically, packing books for a trip is like enacting the papery version of a magpie rhyme. To whit:

One to finish, two to start,

Three for closure, four for heart.

Five for whimsy, six for choice,

Seven for a secret given voice.

Eight for duty, nine for chance,

Ten for balance and romance.

Take eleven? Why not twelve?

Heft the bookbag: rummage, delve.

Pick a story. Breathe it in.

Settle comfortably. Begin.
