comics-and-love asked: I loved your recent Kyle Smith article -- for its deconstruction of his points, but also for the lyrical quality of your prose. I wanted to ask -- assuming you don't mind answering! -- how long it took you to write? If you had to do multiple drafts, etc? (Learning about the process people use to produce things I greatly enjoy reading is very relevant to my interests)
Thank you - I’m glad you liked it! :)
To answer your question, the whole thing took me an hour and a half; I tend to write comic rants very quickly, in a single setting. I’ll usually read over each paragraph multiple times as I go, then do a final readthrough before publishing. Lengthier, more structured pieces take longer to produce, but it’s comparatively rare that I don’t finish a blog post the same day I start it: my big essays on Teen Wolf and fanfiction, for instance, both took multiple hours over multiple days, but they’re each around 10,000 words long with citations, and so needed more work. But otherwise, I write fast!
