To mark the passing of Gough Whitlam, I wore this shirt today. It was originally my mother’s, from when she protested the Whitlam dismissal as a student back in 1975. In keeping with her tradition, I wore it when protesting at university, too. At one such event, a man from my mother’s generation saw the shirt, recognised it, and cheerfully told me to “maintain the rage”.
Vale, Gough. You got some things wrong, but a fuckload right, and a Australia is a better country for having had you in charge, however briefly.
