What Happens Next: A Gallimaufry

All grown up. 

This picture gives me so much strange and beautiful nostalgia, I can’t even. Daria got me through high school, and whenever I watch the final movie where she and Jane go off to college together, I choke up with this sense of glorious potential for who they’re going to grow up to be, and how they helped me grow up to be who I am, and for that moment on the cusp of things where you can taste the future without quite knowing what it means, and it doesn’t even matter that they’re not real, because I can’t watch that scene without part of me wondering where they are now and what they’re doing. I want to catch up with them, somehow, impossibly, and tell them how much they mattered. And then I see something like this, and the rightness of it slots into my heart like a lost coin, and I think, There you are, and you’re doing fine, just like I always knew you would. Welcome home.
